Asperger's Syndrome New Zealand is a small not-for-profit organization (an unincorporated society at present) operated by and for Autistic people, specifically those with Asperger's Syndrome, and was founded November 2007 [please see the Download page for more information on Asperger's Syndrome].

ASNZ has supporters and members drawn from the estimated 1% of New Zealand's population who have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome... or whom should be.

ASNZ has a role, shared with other organisations and individuals, to support the unique perspectives of the Autistic or 'Aspie' community and their authentic and growing culture and common interests within New Zealand.

ASNZ produces a quarterly newsletter for people with Asperger's and a range of relevant and topical documents available in pdf format.

ASNZ seeks to locally support and play a part in wide-ranging international efforts of groups and the individuals that work for and interact with:
Autistic Self Advocacy Network [ASAN] (www.autisticadvocacy.org),
   National Autistic Society [NAS] (www.nas.org.uk)
   Action Autism (www.asplanet.info),
Aspies For Freedom (AFF) (www.aspiesforfreedom.com), and
   Wrong Planet (www.wrongplanet.net).

ASNZ seeks to increasingly respond to the needs of adults on the autism spectrum while working at the same time to challenge public perceptions and misinformation that can make such progress challenging to achieve.

ASNZ seeks to collaborate with agencies and communities to share with them the reality that is life for the adult on the autism spectrum and to highlight our unmet needs and aspirations.

ASNZ is active in the field of public policy advocacy, representation, political action, community engagement to encourage inclusion and respect for neurodiversity, and quality-of-life oriented research and writing.

ASNZ also seeks the development of autistic cultural and educational activities and opportunities for Autistic people to unite with others on the spectrum and their supporters.

For more information, please contact ASNZ via the Contact page or by e-mailing info@asnz.exofire.netASNZ welcomes any helpful suggestions/comments from anyone - of course!
